Case Study
Case Study
Founded and grew a community-based theatre collective designed to bypass traditional barriers to entry (venue, nonprofit structure, licensing costs) while generating revenue, media attention, and cultural impact through strategic partnerships.
The Challenge
My town lacked a community theatre, but launching one traditionally required:
A dedicated venue
Significant startup capital
Nonprofit status and board governance
Ongoing licensing and overhead
These barriers made immediate launch unrealistic, despite strong community interest in the arts.
The Strategy
I reimagined “community theatre” as a mobile, partnership-driven experience:
Performances hosted inside existing local businesses
Original scripts to eliminate licensing costs
Revenue flowing to partners while building our brand visibility
A social-group structure to test demand before formal expansion
Execution
Wrote and produced original theatrical works
Designed immersive, site-specific performances
Coordinated lighting, sound, staging, and audience flow using low-cost tech solutions
Built partnerships with local businesses (wine shop, historic inn)
Led branding, graphic design, social media, ticketing, and promotions
Secured local media coverage through targeted outreach
